If you don’t want to be ruined, stop the monster called overthinking.
Overthinking is a major problem, and it’s crucial to stop it, otherwise it will continue to waste your time and energy.
Stopping overthinking can be challenging, but it’s not impossible.
Let’s explore some best ways to stop overthinking.
1. Stop over consumption of information

Overthinking comes from over consumption of information.
All thoughts begin with information So if you want to get rid from a thought, stop consuming information related to that thought.
For example, stop looking at phone reviews if you don’t want to buy a phone right now.
2. Start journaling to control overthinking thoughts

Journaling is a process of writing your thoughts in a diary or notepad without judging the thoughts.
Overthinking stops by writing journaling because you have removed the thoughts running in your mind and written in the diary, due to which your mind became free from thoughts.
3. Set a worry time
Worry time is a specific time during which we only think about our problems and overthinking thoughts. (Worry time :- 7:00 – 7:30 pm)
Whenever a thought bothers you again and again, immediately write it down in a diary and tell yourself that I will think about this thought at a worrying time. By doing this, your mind will immediately feel relaxed.
By setting a worry time, no thought bothers you during work, due to which the quality and productivity of your work remains intact.
4. Accept your failure and mistakes
Overthinking after failure is very common, but you also need to understand that overthinking won’t help.
Whenever you fail in life or make a mistake that causes you to overthink, say to yourself three times:
“Yes, I failed.
Every successful person in the world has failed. I accept my failure.
I will find my mistakes and try again”.
Accepting your failure and saying positive things helps you to break the trap of overthinking
5. Live in the present
Building a habit of “living in the present” is the most effective way to stop overthinking.
Living in the present means that when you are doing any work, no other thoughts should come to your mind while doing that work, meaning you should be completely focused and this is possible only through practice.
Thinking about the past is regret, the future is worry but the present is peace
6. Keep Busy at Work

Overthinking will not touch you if you always keep yourself busy.
Generally, when you are free, your mind thinks more, but when you plan your day in advance, your mind does not get time to think much, due to which you avoid overthinking.
Planning your day is crucial because it gives you a clear purpose and direction, helping you to avoid overthinking
7. Do some other activities
Distracting your mind is a good way to stop overthinking.
To distract your mind from one thought, start doing activities you enjoy, such as playing games on your phone, listening to music, or chatting with friends.
Whenever you do something you enjoy, a hormone called dopamine is released in your brain, which makes you feel happy and calms your mind.
8. Practice meditation and deep breathing

Scientific research shows that meditation and deep breathing calm our mind and bring you back to the present moment.
Mediation
Regular Practicing meditation helps you to calm your mind and gradually controls your thoughts .
Meditation calms your mind by reducing fear, stress, and overthinking.
Deep breathing
Taking long, deep breaths increases oxygen levels in the body, giving you renewed energy.
Long, deep breathing slows down the heart rate, which calms the nervous system and reduces stress.
When the body and mind are calm, overthinking never occurs.
Practice 4-4-4 breathing technique
4 sec Inhale, 4 sec Hold and 4 sec Exhale
9. Do Physical Exercises
When we engage in any physical activities such as walking, running, exercise, yoga, or swimming etc. then happy hormones are secreted in the brain, which naturally reduces stress and anxiety.
(Happy hormone : Endorphins, Serotonin, and Dopamine.)
When we overthink, our mind and brain consume our energy. If you want to avoid overthinking, shift this energy flow towards physical activities so that the mind and brain get time to calm down.
Regular physical activity leads to good sleep. Good sleep calms the mind and naturally reduces stress and anxiety.
When the mind is calm, overthinking does not occur.
10. Sharing your Problems with Someone

Sharing your problems with others makes your mind feel lighter and calmer.
When you keep a problem to yourself, a mental loop is created and the same problem keeps revolving in your mind again and again, which leads to overthinking.
By sharing problems, we get a new perspective from others to solve the problem and sometimes we get some effective solutions.
11. Consult with a professional.
Try all the methods I’ve mentioned so far to stop overthinking. However, if you don’t see any benefit, you should definitely consult a professional.
When to Consult a Professional
- When the same thought keeps revolving in your mind and you are unable to stop it even try a lot .
- You are unable to sleep well at night due to constant thoughts revolving in your mind.
- Always feeling physically and mentally tired.
